Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party Guide

Last weekend I had the chance to go to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party as part of the Permission to Hustle Disney retreat. I’ve been two times before including last year when we dressed up as the comfy princesses from Ralph Breaks the Internet !

This is my third party, and I want to share my tips and tricks with you for making the most out of your time!

Before I really dig into what makes Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party so awesome, let me just clear one thing up.

Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party is at Magic Kingdom at the Walt Disney Resort in Florida. If you’re looking for info on Mickey’s Halloween Party (without the Not So Scary part), that’s held at Disneyland in California. And while Disneyland at Halloween Time is amazing, that’s not what this post is about.

Now back to our scheduled Disney World programming – nine things you can’t miss at Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party!

The one thing I did want to mention is that the party is a ticketed event, meaning you have to buy a separate ticket than your park ticket for the party. No one is allowed in the park after 7PM without a party wristband.

#1 – Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party Food

If you know anything about me, you know I like my food – especially themed food. I’ve found all the best Disneyland food and the best Disney World snacks , so you’re probably not surprised that while my friends were standing in line for character meet and greets, I was eating my way through all of the speciality Halloween themed food at the party!

I’m going to give you my take on all of the Halloween party food that I tried as well as a list of other things to look out for.

Insider Tip: Mobile ordering is available during the party – just give it a few minutes to get setup. I tried to use mobile ordering right when menus switched over at 7PM and it glitched, but my friend was able to use it at 7:30 to order off the special party menu just fine. Maleficent Dessert at Storybook Treats

I had this first at the party last year and I’m so glad the Maleficent ice cream cone was brought back for this year.

Lime soft serve in a chocolate waffle cone topped with sprinkles and chocolate horns. It’s fantastic and best of all – you can actually get this one during regular park hours, not just during the party!

All of the other ice cream options at Storybook Treats make a great treat as well! My personal favorite is the Peter Pan float!

Worms & Dirt Dessert at Peco’s Bill Tall Tale Inn

I’m a sucker for anything with gummy worms. This is just a traditional worms & dirt dessert – a custard/pudding covered with Oreo crumbs and topped with gummy worms. It’s a classic for a reason. This year they’ve added a cute little picture of “Billy” and are calling it Billy’s Worms & Dirt (Billy not pictured).

Get it at Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn with some Hades nachos.

Insider Tip: Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn & Cafe is only open until 11PM so if you want one of these, make sure to not leave it for the last minute!

Cinnamon Sugar Donuts & Frozen Apple Cider at Golden Oak Outpost

The Golden Oak Outpost is a little bit hidden away over past Splash Mountain, but it’s worth the visit. They’re always serving some sort of can’t miss food!

The cinnamon sugar donuts are served warm and were almost like a beignet, super fluffy and light. These were one of my favorite party food items last year for good reason!

This photo is from last year when they had regular apple cider. For 2019’s party, they are offering a frozen apple cider instead. And if you’re a big fan of Halloween, don’t miss out on the headless horseman straw (available for an extra fee).

Headless Horseman Cheesecake & Chocolate Mickey Waffle Sundae from Sleepy Hollow

This year’s Sleepy Hollow food wasn’t as memorable as last year’s Zero waffle sundae with pumpkin waffles. This year they made the switch to Chocolate Mickey waffles with pumpkin ice cream. If you’re a fan of pumpkin, then you may love this. I thought it was good but good have skipped the pumpkin ice cream.

But I’m not a huge fan of pumpkin unless it’s in this pumpkin crunch cake .

The Headless Horseman cheesecake was cute and the texture was interesting. Not my favorite and I’m a cheesecake lover.

Candy Corn Cotton Candy

Get it throughout the park and while it looks like candy corn, it actually is just three different flavors stacked to look like candy corn. The cotton candy if I remember correctly is actually lemon, pina colada, and orange. And delicious, even a day later.

Amuck Amuck Amuck Cupcake and Halloween Cinnamon Roll at Main Street Bakery

One of the desserts I was wanting most to try was the Hocus Pocus themed Amuck Amuck Amuck cupcake. I mean it’s just so pretty and colorful.

And honestly, it’s pretty tasty too. My only problem is that the cupcake is so big that it’s hard to actually get a bite of the cake itself, I kept ending up with just gobs and gobs of frosting. But if you can manage to get cake, frosting, and ganache all in one bite – it’s delicious.

Just be forewarned – the cupcake is full of dark dyes, which can totally stain your hands or costume.

The Halloween cinnamon roll was just okay. It was soft and flavorful but I’ve had much better cinnamon rolls elsewhere. I even prefer these mini pumpkin cinnamon rolls .

Jack & Sally Push-Pops at the Snack Carts Near Cinderella Castle

If we’re going for the cutest treat of the night, these Nightmare Before Christmas push-pops easily take the cake.

The taste however was not my favorite. The cake and frosting were both good, but there was some middle layer that almost tasted like it was supposed to be candy rocks or just more cake or something. It was flavorless, and I ended up dumping mine out to get to the other portion of the push-pop.

They’re still cute and a great souvenir to take home!

Pumpkin Spice Milkshake at Auntie Gravity’s Galactic Goodies

If you read above, pumpkin is not my favorite. This milkshake, also not my favorite. But if you love pumpkin, you’ll probably love this. It was fairly thick, which I appreciated – it was just too much pumpkin for me.

The Mickey marshmallow however, that was delicious.

You can also skip the shake and just order pumpkin soft serve ice cream at Aunt Gravity’s as well!

Berry Blaster from Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe

Both of the Halloween party drinks I tried were delicious. The berry blaster is a mix of cherry lemonade, Sprite, and a blue curacao syrup then topped with lemon and raspberries. It was sweet with a hint of sour and I easily drank the entire thing.

Hades Hatred from Cool Ship

The other drink I tried was much cuter than the first. Whoever came up with the idea of making a blue drink (lemonade, blue curacao syrup, and blueberry popping pearls) then topping it with blue cotton candy to look like Hades from Hercules is brilliant.

And the drink is super yummy, so that helps!

Other Not So Scary Halloween Party Food

And a couple of the food items that I didn’t get a chance to try but that are Halloween themed and available during the party:

• Donald brownie and Now Begin Thy Magic Spell slush at Casey’s Corner
• Caramel Pretzel at the Golden Oak Outpot
• Hades nachos (buffalo chicken nachos) at Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn
• Constance’s Wedding Cake (so sad I didn’t get to try this – the line was SO long) at Liberty Square Popcorn Cart
• Snake Eyes Drink from Storybook Treats
• Pirates Horizon drink at Aloha Aisle
• Lots-O-Burger at Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe

There was also a super cute Mickey pumpkin popcorn bucket and the Oogie Boogie bucket from last year. I didn’t buy it because it wouldn’t have fit in my suitcase, but it seemed to be the hot item throughout the party, and I wandered around quite a bit with Dawn trying to find it.

#2 – Special Mickey’s Not So Scary Character Meet and Greets

So I’ll be honest, I’m not a stand in line to meet a character person. But if there’s one time to do it – Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween party is the time to do it because there are a number of exclusive meet and greets you can’t do anytime other than during the party.

Check out the map when you walk into the party for exact details on the meet and greets and where as they sometimes change. I’ve included a list below of the characters that are either party exclusive or at least not available all the time.

• Jack Skellington and Sally at Town Square Theater (this is a super popular, party exclusive meet and greet)
• Anastasia and Drizella in Fantasyland
• Seven Dwarves all together in Fantasyland
• Queen of Hearts, Alice, Tweedle-Dee, Tweedle-Dum, Mad Hatter in Fantasyland (I saw them by the tea cups)
• Pooh, Eyeore, Piglet, and Tigger in Halloween costumes (so cute!) in Fantasyland by the Winnie the Pooh ride
• Minnie, Daisy, Goofy, and Donald all in Halloween costume in Fantasyland
• Cruella DeVil
• Lotso Bear in Tomorrowland
• Stitch in Halloween costume in Tomorrowland
• Tarzan, Jane, and Trek in Adventureland
• Moana in Adventureland
• Captain Jack Sparrow in Adventureland
• Aladdin & Abu/Genie & Jasmine in Adventureland
• Jafar in Adventureland

Insider Tip: Lines were longest right when the characters came out but dwindled as the night went on. If you’ll be absolutely devastated if you don’t meet a character, stand in the long lines and meet them first. If you’d rather chance it, wait until later in the night and hopefully you’ll luck out with shorter lines like we saw the night of our party. The hour-long Moana line was maybe 10-15 minutes around 11PM and other lines were short as well toward the end of the night.

#3 – Unlimited Mickey’s Not So Scary Trick or Treating

Unlimited trick or treating. For kids and for adults.

Yep, it’s a thing. And yep, I think my favorite part of the entire party was watching the adults’ eyes light up as the cast members filled their goodie bags with free (included with the cost of the party ticket) candy over and over again. It was amazing.

Just look for the big orange blow-up things that say TREATS on them. The lines might seem a bit long but they move fast and the full bag of candy at the end of the night is totally worth it.

You can either bring your own bag or just use the small one that they give you when you walk into the party. I know cast members are friendly all the time but they seemed especially friendly on the night of the party!

There is also a dedicated Trick or Treat station for GoGoSqueez where you can get some of their delicious applesauce pouches instead of candy!

Note: If someone in your party has allergies, Disney has an amazing allergy program where kids can get teal coins instead that can be traded in for allergy-free treats and items at the end of the night. You can read more about attending Mickey’s Not-So-Scary party with allergies here .

Insider Tip: If you go to treat stations at the end of the night, they tend to hand out more candy as they’re getting rid of their stashes. We always like to go after the final parade when things are slowing down and cast members are trying to empty their candy buckets!

#4 – Boo-To-You Parade at Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party

It’s not just another Disney parade. I promise.

Get a good seat at least 10-15 minutes before the parade starts because the opening act of the parade is the headless horseman riding along the parade route, and that itself is awesome.

And then there’s the parade. Villains, Haunted Mansion dancers, Graveyard Diggers (digging up sparks), Wreck it Ralph & Vanellope are some of the highlights of this totally unique show. The music is fantastic, the quality of the characters is amazing, and it’s just all around great.

Insider Tip : There are two parade times, typically 9:15PM and 11:15PM – the second one is always less crowded and easier to get a good seat without parking for hours beforehand. Parade begins in Frontierland and goes down Main Street.

#5 – Mickey’s Not So Spooky Spectacular Fireworks

Brand new this year is the Disney’s Not So Spooky Spectacular fireworks show and it’s in one word – spectacular. The projections + fireworks are seriously amazing. I don’t do fireworks shows that often and recommend no one miss this!

The show is at 10:15 PM and the hub in front of Cinderella Castle gets busy long before that with people wanting a good view. If you can, I highly recommend getting a spot in front of the castle rather than just watching the fireworks from behind like in Fantasyland because unlike the previous Halloween fireworks, the projections on this new one are amazing and you’re going to want to see them!

Insider Tip: Try to watch from the side closest to wherever you want to go after the show because the hub gets crazy crowded immediately after. If you’re on the side closest to Frontierland, it’s going to take you a while to get all the way across to Tomorrowland and vice versa. Plan ahead and sit where you want to bolt afterward.

#6 – Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party Shows

So the big one is the Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular with those three famous Hocus Pocus witches singing out their hearts and souls and of course the parade and fireworks I already talked about.

But don’t think that’s the only show that happens during the Halloween party. Who knows what ghostly performances you might find as you walk around?

The Cadaver Dans with their haunting singing were definitely my favorite of the night! There are also plenty of dance party opps and other performances throughout the park!

Another fun one was the Monstrous Scream-O-Ween Ball where the characters from Monster Inc were jamming with all the kids. Seriously so cute!

Also available during the party is the Disney Descendance Party in Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe where Villain Kids come out and play and the Storybook Circus Disney Junior Jam where you can dance the night away with your favorite Disney Junior characters!

Insider Tip: Going to one of the dance parties is a great way to get some character interaction without standing in line!

#7 – Photo Opps Only Available During Mickey’s Not So Scary Party

One of the most fun things about the party is that it’s a great excuse to dress up in costume! Walking around and seeing all the kids and adults dressed up was right there up at the top of my favorite parts of the night. These Hocus Pocus witches were spot on!

Need something last minute? Try one of these DIY superhero costumes – they only take a few minutes to make at home!

I went with three of my good friends last year and we decided to go as the comfy princess clothes from the movie Ralph Breaks the Internet. I made all of the shirts and everyone put together their own individual outfits. You can get the cut files for these shirts here !

This year we did tutu costumes inspired our favorite characters. I love Marvel, so I went with this Hawkeye shirt with a purple tutu.

Wearing costumes can make the exclusive photo opps even more fun! Get a photo by the Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party ornament, by any of the Halloween decorations, or ask for a little extra magic during a PhotoPass picture and see who might show up. My favorite was this cute picture with Jack Skellington’s dog Zero.

Insider Tip: Memory Maker is one of my favorite things about Disney, but it can be pricey. Split it with friends and share photos by linking your accounts together as friends and family. It’s totally worth it for some of the more unique moments!

#8 – Check Out Halloween Ride Twists

This year there are what Disney is calling “Halloween twists,” on a number of the rides. Some of them are more exciting than others but here’s what you can expect. Out of all of these, the one I say is a must-do is Space Mountain in the dark. It’s an adrenaline rush and just thrilling. None of the others are worth waiting in a long line for – but if it’s a short line go for it. I

• Pirates of the Caribbean – live interactive pirates join you for the ride
• Mad Tea Party – Halloween lights, color, and music spook up this ride
• Monsters Inc Laugh Floor – this “twist” is being able to walk into the show while you’re trick or treating, which is more of a trick than a treat in my opinion
• Space Mountain – ride in pitch darkness

And don’t skip out on all of the other rides – there are tons of rides open during the party and the lines are way shorter than normal park hours! Not quite as short as during Disney After Hours but close.

Insider Tip: You can’t bring drinks in the Space Mountain line. Period. Both my friend Sarah and I bought drinks right before getting in line because you know we were going to drink them while we waited in line. We had to either finish the drinks before getting in line or toss them. It was a huge bummer, especially because there were trash cans literally right at the end of the line before getting the cars but rules are rules. So take my advice and skip the drinks.

#9 – Grab Some Party Specific Merchandise

It’s Disney so you know there are some spectacular Halloween party items to purchase! Whether it’s a balloon, light up pumpkin necklaces, or a party exclusive pin – grab something to commemorate your visit!

Other Random Tips for Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party

Just a couple of other things that don’t need their own section but thought might be helpful to know about Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party!

• The party doesn’t technically start until 7PM but you can get into Magic Kingdom with your party ticket starting at 4PM. They’ll give you a wristband that you need to keep on to prove that you can stay in the park after 6PM, when they begin the process of removing non-party goers from the park.
• Buy your Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party Tickets ahead of time because parties do tend to sell out, especially as you get closer to Halloween.
• If you’re into the Sorcerer’s of the Magic Kingdom Game, they give out exclusive Halloween party only cards. You can only get them during the party so grab one before you leave!
• Ride lines are much shorter during the party than normal but there are still lines. If you wait until later in the night, the ride lines get shorter and shorter.
• If you want to eat non-party food, make sure to check the schedules of the restaurants in the park. Many of them close early with only a handful (ones mentioned on the map) staying open for the party. If a restaurant closes early, its closing time is mentioned on the map.
• Dress for the temperature – Florida is hot, even at night! And don’t forget comfy shoes, these are my favorite travel shoes ever !

And since I get a lot of the same questions about the party, here are some of those more popular questions and answers!

What rides are open during Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party?

So many! And if you go on a weeknight or a day further out from Halloween, the lines are definitely shorter. Based on the map provided at the park, here’s what’s open during the party.

• Adventureland – Jungle Cruise, Swiss Family Treehouse, Magic Carpets of Aladdin, and Pirates of the Caribbean
• Frontierland – Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
• Liberty Square – Haunted Mansion
• Fantasyland – Prince Charming Carousel, Peter Pan’s Flight, It’s a Small World, Under the Sea with Little Mermaid, Barnstormer, Dumbo, Mad Tea Party, Winnie the Pooh, and Mine Train
• Tomorrowland – Monster’s Inc (sort of – see twists section above), Tomorrowland Speedway, Space Mountain, Astro Orbiter, PeopleMover, Buzz Lightyear

Do I need a separate ticket for the party?

Yes, yes, yes! Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party is totally separate from your park ticket. You need to buy a ticket just for the party and that ticket will get you in beginning at 4PM on the day of your party. You’ll need to get a wristband when you enter the park with your party ticket and anyone without a wristband after 7PM will be kicked out.

What time is Mickey’s Not So Scary Party?

The party starts at 7PM and as mentioned before, you can get into the park as early as 4PM with your party ticket. The party goes from 7PM to midnight each night.

Parties have already started for 2019 and continue throughout September and October with one final party on Friday, November 1st.

How much are party tickets?

Party tickets costs are dependent on what day you’re going. Disney has placed a premium fee on more popular party nights like weekends and Halloween night. Party tickets start at for adults and go all the way up to 5 for Halloween night. As far as I know the party is the same every night so if you can go one of the cheaper nights, do it.

One other money saving tip – if you buy at least a day in advance, you’ll save per ticket! The only night the discount doesn’t apply is Halloween night.

There’s also a discount for annual pass holders and Disney Vacation Club members for every party other than Halloween week. Just make sure you’re logged into the Disney World website prior to purchasing your tickets.

What’s the Halloween Party Pass?

New this year is also the Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party Pass that allows you to get into every single party other than Halloween night – including parties that are sold out!

The pass is 9 plus tax for ages 10 and up and 4 for ages 3-9 (no AP or DVC discounts). Purchase it at guest services or a ticket window at the park – it can’t currently be purchased online!

One other note – tickets are nonrefundable and nontransferable.

Can I wear a costume?

Yes, everyone can wear costumes – just make sure to follow Disney’s costume policy , even for Halloween!
